About Faith Baptist Church

We are an independent Baptist Church.

This means that we adhere to basic Baptist doctrine and principles, but our members are free to choose its church leadership and the ministries it supports.

We believe God the Father is an infinite, eternal, wise, all powerful, holy, just, good, loving and all knowing Spirit, the Maker and Supreme Ruler of heaven and earth.

We believe the Bible is God’s  infallible word and as such the scriptures are  without error and therefore authoritative in all they teach and in all matters they touch.

We believe the Scriptures teach that Christ died for the whole world and that salvation of sinners is divinely initiated, wholly of grace, and accomplished only through the mediatorial work of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.  It is wholly apart from words and is upon the sole condition of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and never without genuine repentance.  In order to be saved the sinner must be born again, personally receiving Christ as Savior.

Our Pastor

Phil Griffith, Pastor

Pastor Phil Griffith was born in Marion, Ohio.  He is the youngest of five children, whom his mother solely reared through faithful prayer and dedication.  Phil was saved when he was in his teens and surrendered his life to full time ministry during high school.  Upon graduation of high school in 1972, he enrolled in Baptist Bible College.

It wasn’t until May of 1974 during Fellowship Week that he met his future bride, Ramona Hackler.  They dated for a year and were married on August 2nd, 1975.  Phil graduated in May of 1977 with a B.A. in Pastoral Theology.  Mona also graduated in May of 1977 with a Missions Degree.  Upon graduation, they moved to Centerville, Iowa and took a position as a Youth Pastor with Grace Tabernacle Baptist Church.  He faithfully served in this capacity for 8 1/2 years before coming to Ottumwa, Iowa, in August of 1985 to serve as Pastor of Faith Baptist Church.

Pastor Phil enjoys sports of all kinds, especially basketball.  He and his wife, Mona, live in Ottumwa and have two girls, Aimee and Apryle.
