Maxine Shields Memorial Service

Maxine Elizabeth Knedler Shields, 95, of #1 Oak Ridge Rd., was called home to her Lord and family at 5:21 a.m. November 23, 2013 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

She was born August 31, 1918 in Floris to Gilbert Earle and Florence Delcina Johnson Knedler. She married Ralph Shields on January 21, 1946. He preceded her in death on January 3, 2009.

Maxine was a graduate of Blakesburg High School in 1936 and of the Iowa Success School. After her husband’s military service was completed, they made their home in Eldon. Maxine served as the librarian for the Eldon Public Library for 15 years.

She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Ottumwa, and a 50 year member of P.E.O. Chapter CG.

Her body has been donated to the University of Iowa Department of Anatomy.

Surviving are nephews, Jack Warner of Ottumwa, Jim (Marsha) Warner of Ripon, CA, Don (Patty) Shields of Leucadia, CA, Maurice (Ann) Shields of Alexandria, VA, Eula Jean (Gayle) Stephens of Birmingham, AL, Ken (Joanna) Shields of Dallas, TX and many grand-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; niece, Paula Kay (Dennis) Philliman and nephew, Bob Shields.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday February 9, 2014 at Faith Baptist Church. Inurnment will be in Eldon Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Baptist Church.
