Growing in Christ

Growing in Christ

9For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
10That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
11Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;
12Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
13Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
14In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

Colossians 1:9-14

One of the most comforting things that you can say to anyone is “I am praying for you.” The Key to the success of that is to know that God desires that we be:

Filled with the knowledge of His Will

Notice some key words in Paul’s Prayer

Filled is not just a little bit

It is completely full

“Knowledge of His Will”

Not just head knowledge

Rather, knowledge that is a result of practical experience

“In all wisdom and spiritual understanding”

To have spiritual wisdom, you have to have spiritual insight

To possess a knowledge of God’s will requires prayer

Why is this important?

Because we are destroyed by a lack of knowledge

It is essential in our being that we are being renewed in the likeness of Christ

Walk worthy of the Lord

This is the object of being filled with the knowledge of His Will

It’s how we conduct ourselves

We are Christ’s Ambassadors

Strengthened with all might

Strengthened by His Power

God desires for us to be strong

God desires for us to be strong in His Power

God expects His people to be able to endure the opposition He promised would come to us

God expects His people to deal with all of this with joy because their joy is dependent upon Him and not our circumstances

For patience and longsuffering with joy

Giving thanks to the Father

The secret to growing in Christ is moving towards Christ
