Go Ye Into All The World

Go Ye Into All The World

Mark 16:14-20

14Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen. 15And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. 17And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. 19So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. 20And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

Our Lord’s Appearances after His Resurrection

He first appeared to Mary Magdalene

He had cast out 7 devils

When she came to tell the disciples that He had risen

They didn’t believe her

Possibly questioning her past as Christians do to others today

He appeared to two unnamed disciples

They didn’t know it was Jesus until He broke bread with them

He appeared to the eleven disciples

They didn’t initially believe it was Jesus before them

He spoke personally to Thomas

Thomas refused to believe that Jesus had risen until he saw the nail holes in His hands

All the disciples were slow to believe Jesus had risen

Jesus rebuked them all for not believing

It’s easy to believe things when we can see them

It takes faith to believe things that we can not see

Our Lord’s Assignment to His Disciples

16Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. 17And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. 18And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. – Matthew 28:16-20

The Great Commission has three parts

First – Go

Evangelism is to mostly be done outside the church

Go to where the people are

Second – Into All the World

It’s our responsibility to reach beyond our immediate proximity

How far are we to go

Jesus literally said to the outermost part of the earth

Third – With the Gospel

The Gospel is

Christ came to earth for our sins

Christ died for our sins

Christ rose again for our sins

The disciples tools to preach the Gospel were sign gifts

Some of those gifts included

They would cast out devils

They would speak in new tongues

They would take up serpents

They would lay hands and sick and heal them

When God’s Written Word was complete, the sign gifts went away

When the Bible was done, the gifts were gone

We don’t need them anymore

We have the full Written Word of God, it is enough

Those who claim to have sign gifts are not Biblical

If you listen long enough, they will prove it by saying non-Biblical things

Our Lord’s Ascension (return) into Heaven

Many will say it wasn’t a fair assignment

God left the responsibility to spread the Gospel of the Lord to a small group of people

That group includes us

The great thing about the Great Commission is that we do not have to work it alone

God did not leave us alone

God left the Holy Spirit to comfort us

When Jesus returned to Heaven, had He left His disciples with an impossible taks?  Yes!  Because we were included in fulfilling the assignment.  Can He count on You?
