If God Doesn’t Need Our Money, Why Give?
12If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof. 13Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats? 14Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High: 15And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.
He made everything with a word, and He has a limitless supply of resources. Even if He were in need of something material, He would not ask us for it.
God has given us the ultimate gift of salvation! He wants us to sit in stunned awe at how great His salvation is and to respond appropriately.
1And it came to pass, when the king sat in his house, and the Lord had given him rest round about from all his enemies;
2That the king said unto Nathan the prophet, See now, I dwell in an house of cedar, but the ark of God dwelleth within curtains.
3And Nathan said to the king, Go, do all that is in thine heart; for the Lord is with thee.
4And it came to pass that night, that the word of the Lord came unto Nathan, saying,
5Go and tell my servant David, Thus saith the Lord, Shalt thou build me an house for me to dwell in?
6Whereas I have not dwelt in any house since the time that I brought up the children of Israel out of Egypt, even to this day, but have walked in a tent and in a tabernacle.
7In all the places wherein I have walked with all the children of Israel spake I a word with any of the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people Israel, saying, Why build ye not me an house of cedar?
8Now therefore so shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Israel:
9And I was with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies out of thy sight, and have made thee a great name, like unto the name of the great men that are in the earth.
10Moreover I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own, and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as beforetime,
11And as since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel, and have caused thee to rest from all thine enemies. Also the Lord telleth thee that he will make thee an house.
12And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.
13He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.
14I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men: – 2 Samuel 7:1-14
David wanted to give to God because he wanted to leverage his earthly resources for the advancement of God’s kingdom
We are instructed to give for the same reason
It can help reach many on the mission fields and at home
Many will come to Christ because of it
Offerings of Gratefulness
24And the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the Lord my God of that which doth cost me nothing. So David bought the threshingfloor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.
25And David built there an altar unto the Lord, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the Lord was intreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel. – 2 Samuel 24:24-25
David didn’t want to give something that wasn’t his, he wanted to give from his heart
If David was grateful for what God did for him, how much more should be be grateful
We see how God has blessed David
We see how God has blessed the Apostiles
We see how God has blessed us
Obedience to God’s Spirit
Many times we overlook the Holy Spirit
The reason a lot of us don’t know what to give God is because we’ve simply never asked Him what he wants us to give
We should ask the Holy Spirit what we should give
Then we should be amazed how God provides us the ability to give it
What should we give God
Our burdens (worries)
If you can’t believe God can handle
your heart, your time, or your burdens;
then you don’t believe John 3:16 either
