Where Was God?
1God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, 3though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah 4There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High. 5God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns. 6The nations rage, the kingdoms totter; he utters his voice, the earth melts. 7The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah 8Come, behold the works of the Lord, how he has brought desolations on the earth. 9He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the chariots with fire. 10″Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” 11The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah
Some events in human history impact us so deeply that we will forever have engraved in our minds where we were and what we were doing when we heard the news.
Space Shuttle Challenger, John F. Kennedy assassination, 9-11, where were you? Where was God?
The Bible says there’s one thing that gets God’s fullest attention more than anything else, and that is innocent blood which cries out to Him.
The same place He was when Adam rebelled in the Garden of Eden
He was present and ready to cover man’s sin
Before we were ever created, God had a plan of redemption already made
The same place He was when Noah built an Ark
The time of Noah was the most terrible time in human history
Sin and wickedness was so rampent, God flooded the earth
In the midst of this ungodliness, Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord
Noah was a man, not a perfect man (nor can any man be), who was righteous
The same place He was when Joseph was rotting in jail
Ever-present, God works his perfect will that is greater than we can ever imagine
If ever anyone who was mistreated and wronged, it was Joseph
Joseph’s attitude was “What you meant for bad, God meant for good”
God used Joseph’s circumstances to place him in a position to save his family and his nation
The same place he was when Job lost his children and everything else
He was blameless and upright, but did it imune him from problem’s and personal disasters?
He became a target of Satan
Job was urged to curse God, but Job steadfastly refused
God repaid Job’s never ending praise by giving him back his blessings two fold
Where was God on that Friday? The same place He was on another Friday when the world crucified His one and only son. Of course He could have stopped it, of course He cares, but He allowed it to happen; and we are all blessed because of it. God had a bigger plan, to save us all who except Him.
The talking heads on TV say this one got our attention because of the tender young age of the victims. If that’s true, then why can’t we wake up to the cry of innocent blood coming from within the womb, the only place on earth which should be safer than our homes and schools?
