Who’s going to help us?
1 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.s2 My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.5 The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand.6 The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.7 The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.8 The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.
We have all walked through some difficult times. Times of danger, overwhelming burdens, etc. The lessons taught in this Psalm will help all us travel our pilgrimage as a child of God.
The Source of Our Help
5 times the helper is identified as The Lord
The hills, in this time, were where people ent to worship false gods
The Psalmist is not looking at the hills, he’s looking beyond the hills
The word “Yahweh” is a covenant Name of God
The never changing, always there, the only God
The Scope of Our Help
He helps those who slip
He promises to never leave us, or forsake us
He is our keeper
He watches over us
He protects us
He sees us through until we are safely home
He helps those who sleep
He knows it’s easy to slip, He knows it’s also easy to sleep
Sometimes we become over-burdened
Sometimes we will become passive
We can turn our burdens over to Him
He helps those who struggle
He protects you from your enemies
He protects you from the elements
The Strength of Our Help
You are preserved from Evil
You are preserved for Eternity
Who’s going to help us? The Lord is, and He is the only One Who can!
